Development of Occupant Classification System
نویسنده
چکیده
An Occupant Classification System (OCS) that detects the existence and physique of the passenger seat occupant for the Advanced Air Bag requirements of FMVSS208 was developed. This paper describes an OCS which distinguishes small women (5th percentile adult female dummy: AF05) from young children (less than 6-yearold child dummy: AC06) pertaining to the following items. (1) The reason of classification between AF05 and AC06. (2) The relation between the occupant seating position and OCS output. (3) An influence on the OCS output of the belt tension load and the way of compensation it. This sensor system satisfies the suppression requirements of the FMVSS208. Additionally, other seating positions which Nissan considers important in Real World can also be detected.

متن کاملA methodology for identifying and improving occupant behavior in residential buildings
This paper reports the development of a methodology for identifying and improving occupant behavior in existing residential buildings. In this study, end-use loads were divided into two levels (i.e. main and sub-category), and they were used to deduce corresponding two-level user activities (i.e. general and specific occupant behavior) indirectly. The proposed method is based on three basic dat...
متن کاملDecision Algorithm for Smart Airbag Deployment Safety Issues
Airbag deployment has been known to be responsible for huge death, incidental injuries and broken bones due to low crash severity and wrong deployment decisions. Therefore, the authorities and industries have been looking for more innovative and intelligent products to be realized for future enhancements in the vehicle safety systems (VSSs). Although the VSSs technologies have advanced consider...
متن کاملA vehicle occupant counting system based on near-infrared phenomenology and fuzzy neural classification
We undertook a study to determine if the automatic detection and counting of vehicle occupants is feasible. An automated vehicle occupant counting system would greatly facilitate the operation of freeway lanes reserved for buses, car-pools, and emergency vehicles (HOV lanes). In the present paper, we report our findings regarding the appropriate sensor phenomenology and arrangement for the task...
متن کاملOccupant Classification System for Automotive Airbag Suppression
The introduction of airbags into automobiles has significantly improved the safety of the occupants. Unfortunately, airbags can also cause fatal injuries if the occupant is a child smaller (in weight) than a typical 6 year old. In response to this, The National Highway Transportation and Safety Administration (NHTSA) has mandated that starting in the 2006 model year all automobiles be equipped ...
